If Seattle’s Dave B embodies the elements of the next generation of MCs, the genre is in good hands. The multi-talented artist who raps, sings, writes, and produces also brings to the table lyrical content reflective of the golden age of hip-hop.

Dave B, born David Bowman, is not simply a rapper. He operates in the increasingly popular vacuum between rapping and singing, unafraid to focus more on harmonizing than on spitting the hardest 16. On his 2015 project Punch Drunk, he chose to display a narrowing of his focus, choosing to home in on this lighthearted, elastic style that’s been popularized by Chicago’s golden child Chance The Rapper and the DMV’s GoldLink, who characterized the approach as “future bounce.”

Fast forward to July 2016, where he linked up with Soulection Godfather, Sangoon ‘Tomorrow‘, a breezy, sing-song deliverance spiced with signature atmospheric Sango beats.

The depth and versatility of his stylings can partially be attributed to his vast musical influences that range from gospel icons Fred Hammond and Kirk Franklin to hip-hop luminaries André 3000, Kanye West, and Erykah Badu to jazz legend Thelonious Monk and rock god Jimi Hendrix.

Dave B’s wisdom, talent and mindset make him an invaluable asset to his class of MCs.
