In Home, Ones To Watch, Perspective

It’s too early to say that Jon Vinyl (seemingly stylised as JON VINYL) is ‘next up’ but from his first two releases ‘NOSTALGIA’ and ‘LIFE’, he possess an abundance of talent.

The Toronto native is mysterious and enchanting and on ‘NOSTALGIA’ flips future R&B on its head by returning to a more traditional sound. He references G4s and Japanese Denim, an ode to to contemporary R&B (‘Japanese Denim’ being one of Daniel Caesar’s introductory tracks).

‘LIFE’ is equally as special. A weeping guitar supports his silky vocals throughout as the listener is guided effortlessly across a woozy soundscape. The lyrics are introspective and reflective: “I took a trip on my soul, realised I needed more, found out that time ain’t for sure, so now I’m just opening doors…”.

A combination of his lyrical content, air of mystery and undoubted talent position him perfectly in the lane of new wave R&B of which the likes of Brent Faiyaz, Daniel Caesar and Marco McKinnis are the current front runners.

Vinyl has already been featured on OVO Sound Radio (Episode 53), go stream ‘NOSTALGIA’ and ‘LIFE’ below:
