A look at our top 5 latest songs of the past week plus a couple of extras because 5 wasn’t enough with the volume of this week’s releases. Let us know what you think in the comments. No playlist this week as the sources are kind of all over the place, stay tuned to our ‘May Time’ playlists on Spotify and Soundcloud, these will be on there.
1. Everything Is Recorded ft. Sampha – Close But Not Quite
XL Recordings’ co-founder Richard Russell is not only a label executive but also makes his own music. A project titled Everything is Recorded was debuted live in March on live on Reprezent Radio. We’ve now finally got the mastered version of the EP which features a special performance from Sampha on ‘Close But Not Quite’. This is a crazy mash up of Sampha and Curtis Mayfield’s ‘The Makings of You’
2. Bryson Tiller – Set It Off
Not many artists drop an album early these days, certainly not a month early, that’s what Bryson did this week. It’s too early to judge his sophomore project ‘True to Self’ as it only dropped a couple of days ago, but there are some bangers of which ‘Set It Off’ is an early favourite. Sampling Faith Evans’, ‘You Are My Joy (Interlude)’, this is signature Tiller lamenting over his long term love and her unwavering hold-me-down type passion.
3. Kali Uchis ft. Jorja Smith – Tyrant
For the last two years, Colombian-born singer Kali Uchis has been preparing for the release of her debut album. In 2015, the singer collaborated with Tyler, the Creator, BadBadNotGood, Kaytranada, Steve Lacy, and more. She offered a solid introduction to her sound with her Por Vida EP. Now she’s finally ready to put out her first full-length album. ‘Tyrant’ featuring Walsall’s finest Jorja Smith is sultry and sexy, summer pool party vibes suitable for dutty wine. We understand that production input for her debut has been provided by Tame Impala’s Kevin Parker and Damon Albarn of Gorillaz, watch this space.
4. Migos – To Hotty
Following collaborations with Katy Perry, Lil Yachty, and Liam Payne, Migos lays the smack down on “To Hotty,” an ode to WWE wrestler Scotty 2 Hotty.

5. Vacations – Lover’s Smoke
On last night’s 44th episode of OVO Sound Radio, Oliver kicked off with Vacations an EP bringing together Sade and Drake entitled ‘More Love’ on a series of mash ups. Our pick of the EP so far is ‘Lover’s Smoke’.
Bonus tings
Lil Yachty ft. Stefflon Don – Better
At 21 tracks long, Lil Yachty’s Teenage Emotions is a long album that will take some time to really get a hold of. Yachty seems to attack his sound on a three pronged approach, trap-shit, happy-shit and thotty-shit. This is very much in the happy-shit camp. The beat has somewhat of a reggae bounce and twinkling steel drums, and Yachty and British artist Stefflon Don don’t go much above a murmur as they sing this gentle love song.
